Delete your account and data
You can delete your evvnly account and the personal data associated with it at any time. There are two ways to do it — you do not need to keep the app installed to request deletion.
Option 1 — In the app (fastest)
Open evvnly and go to Settings → Privacy → Delete account. Before you confirm, the app shows you exactly what will happen: what becomes of each group you own, how many people keep a copy of your display name, and any balances you still have open. Deletion is immediate.
Option 2 — By email
If you can no longer use the app, email us at [email protected] and ask us to delete your account and data. To help us find and verify your account, please:
- send the request from the email address you use to sign in to evvnly, and
- use the subject line “Delete my account”.
So that nobody else can delete your account, we may ask you to confirm the request from your account email address. Once we’ve verified it’s you, we will delete your account without undue delay and within 30 days, and email you to confirm when it’s done. This is free.
What gets deleted
- Your account and your sign-in identifiers, including your email address. It is not kept anywhere.
- Your profile — display name, photo, bio — and your personal settings.
- Your own spending history: your personal expense ledger, your saved categories, and your saved preferences.
- Your push-notification tokens and device and diagnostic data.
- Any active subscription or household seat you were paying for, and any share links you had issued.
- Any group where you were the only member with an account, together with everything in it.
What stays, and why
Some of what you added to a group is not only yours. An expense you entered, and the balances and settlements that follow from it, are part of every other member’s record of what they are owed. Deleting those would not erase your data — it would corrupt theirs. So they stay:
- Shared expenses, settlements and group balances, along with the comments and photos attached to them.
- Your display name on those records — and nothing else. There is no account behind it, no email address, no photo, no contact details, and no way to sign in as it. It is not marked or labelled in any way.
What stays is also split up. Rather than one record of you that every group can see, each person you shared a group or a direct expense with keeps their own separate copy of the name, covering only their own groups. Nobody inherits a view of anyone else’s.
Everyone who shared a group with you sees a one-off note that you deleted your account.
Groups you own
Deleting your account does not delete the groups you created. Each one is handed to another member — an existing admin if there is one, otherwise the longest-standing member who has an account — so the group and its ledger carry on without you. You’ll see who takes over before you confirm, and you can hand a group to someone else yourself first if you’d rather choose.
The exception is a group where you were the only member with an account. There is nobody to hand it to and no other ledger to protect, so that group and everything in it is deleted outright.
Coming back
If you sign up again later, you start fresh — a new account, with none of the old history attached. Each friend who still has a copy of your name can invite you back into their groups, and accepting their invitation reconnects that history. It happens one friend at a time, and only when you accept.
What we may keep
We delete your personal data from our live systems, except for the shared records described above and except for limited records we are legally required to keep — for example, billing and tax records for any paid purchases, which Portuguese law generally requires us to retain for up to 10 years. These are kept only to meet that obligation and are not used for anything else. Crash and error reports and technical logs are kept for a limited period, typically up to 90 days. Backups are cycled out on a rolling basis.
For full detail on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
